Brief Overview: ICANN is posting for public comment proposed Bylaws revisions that would incorporate a higher voting threshold for the Board to determine not to follow the advice of the Governmental Advisory Committee. Currently, the Bylaws require a simple majority of the Board (50% + 1) to vote to not follow a piece of advice from the GAC. The proposed amendments to the Bylaws would require 2/3 of the voting members of the Board to vote to act inconsistently with a piece of GAC advice.

Delivery Hero Joins The $1B Valuation Club As It Gobbles Rival Pizza.de

On the heels of Rocket Internet?s food delivery service FoodPanda taking another $60 million in funding, its German rival Delivery Hero is also stepping up its game in a consolidation play. August 2014 is proving yet again to be an amusing month in the Australian political scene, and in this case the source of the amusement was watching a number of Australian politicians fumble around the topic of digital surveillance and proposed legislation relating to data retention measures. The politicians assured us that the proposed data retention measures were nothing untoward, and all that was being called for was the retention of ?metadata? by Australian ISPs for a period of two years. We were being reassured that this was not an underhand introduction of a surveillance state, and at no stage was this a call for ISPS to retain a complete copy of the content of all traffic that they carry for their users. All that was being called for in these measures was to retain ?metadata?.

Australia and Mexico Must Overhaul Data Retention Mandates

Today, Mexico?s newest data retention law entered into force. The Mexican telecom law compels telecom providers to retain, for two years, the details of who communicates with whom, for how long, and from where. It also allows the authorities access to these details without a court order, exposing geolocation information that reveals the physical whereabouts of Mexicans.
