I can see some demand for hostnames or domains directly under .au but would consider meeting that demand having too many detrimental impacts on the TLD in general. The benefits would be minor but the disadvantages many and high loss for the general public. It isn't as if the current space and break up of the TLD is that crowded or overused. I don't blame those involved in trying to expand their markets, that is natural and expected. I just don't see any need for the .au space to be modelled on their preferences unless it can be proven there are substantial benefits in it for everyone.
