Undermining the DNS is what the problem is. When I type http://www.xyz.com 
I want to go there and there only, or is it time we began compiling a list 
of valid reasons for such redirections, ie commercial incompetence being one?

Their behaviour has set a lot of dangerous precedents others may follow.
