Kim I for one would suggest that providing snippets of information about the auctions completed (but in a timely manner) would be expected by and very helpful to more people than just myself. As a registered bidder and having several clients who are registered bidders - I would like to know on a regular basis (not at 45 day intervals) the progress through the list and the highest bids of closed auctions. I for one am disappointed that the auctions are being done in behind closed doors and would have preferred that whilst the bidders be strictly registered; that the general public be allowed to view and scrutinise the processes. It is good enough for physical real-estate but it seems not for virtual real-estate in the hands of the auDA? Personally, I believe that the auDA as the peak body of the industry in Australia and an organisation that has an extremely low or non-existent profile in the general community, should be more transparent by providing timely information about these auctions and the results with the closing bid etc. Wouldn't it be a great opportunity for auDA to boost it's profile with the general community during the process of the auction by say releasing the information of the auctions completed - I suggest on at least a weekly basis. With the slow progress being made to date, surely auDA would then be guaranteed publicity right through to the end of this year and probably into the next. Such a saturation campaign might just elevate public awareness of the auDA?? Phil Wright PS I naturally assumed that without you previously stating otherwise, that you were speaking in the capacity of your official role. However my comments remain official and I would like you to read them in your official capacity and pass them on - thank you -----Original Message----- From: Kim Davies [mailto:kim§cynosure.com.au] Sent: Friday, 17 May 2002 3:08 AM To: dns§lists.auda.org.au Subject: Re: [DNS] Where to find? Quoting Phil Wright on Friday May 17, 2002: | | I really don't think that the auDA can stand proud in providing information | to the marketplace about the auctions!!! | | For instance the information that you referred to "The auction is in | progress. Take a look at | http://www.auda.org.au/about/news/2002040202.html" | | Kim this article is more than 1 and a half months old!! | Not what I would regard as timely or up to date Well, maybe you're right. But the auctions are still in progress and I don't see any of that information that is really out of date. Given that results of the auctions aren't intended to be published officially until they have concluded - what other information would you like to see disclosed? But on the more general question of auDA's record on "providing information to the marketplace," whilst these things can always be improved at this very moment auDA is beginning some extensive market education including http://www.auda.org.au/about/seminars.html. Considerable effort is being expended in education in the lead up to and after the introduction of competition. auDA doesn't have an excellent track record of public awareness. I think this is more a reflection of auDA's limited role to date. auDA has been an administrator waiting in the wings. Now that things are finally moving on these issues that we all feel passionate about, I would expect increased community awareness and more progress to report. (Lastly, a point I should always make. Speaking in a personal capacity only.) kim --------------------------------------------------------------------------- List policy, unsubscribing and archives => http://www.auda.org.au/list/dns/ Please do not retransmit articles on this list without permission of the author, further information at the above URL.
