] I can't be the only one who sees lots of long and some quite well ] written messages about ADNA, ISOC, .COM.AU, AU, DNAs, 2LDs etc but stil ] don't see clearly what the specific problems are. ] ] Could someone PLEASE answer the following for me: ] ] What are the current problems with DNA in Australia right now? ] (A succint answer please) It is generally considered that there should be competition among DNAs for com.au. That way prices can be set by market forces. There has been some concern about Melbourne IT's pricing of renewals, for example. ] Do the current volunteer DNAs for the other 2LDs feel they can't ] continue to provide quality service for their 2LD? ie, do they want ] out of the job? Speaking as the DNA for wattle.id.au, I am happy to continue acting as a volunteer in the same way that I have been. If registrants aren't happy with the volunteer service which is available, there are commercial id.au DNAs also, which one assumes have a higher level of service. Technically I act as an agent for the id.au domain administrator, though I don't think kre has had any specific (day-to-day) involvement with wattle.id.au since it was fully set up, about 2 years ago. I haven't seen suggestions that other current volunteer DNAs want to change the arrangements at this time. ] Does the current DNA for .AU feel he can't provide the service as ] a volunteer anymore? ie does he want out of the job? Not that I know of. ] Who are the current DNAs answerable to? In the case of net.au, AFAIK connect.com.au is answerable to Hugh Irvine, who is answerable to kre. I think in all other cases DNAs are directly answerable to kre. ] Who will ADNA be answerable to? According to Peter Gerrand's posting to dns§intiaa of ADNA's Press Release :- `` The six initial Full Members of ADNA are AIA (the Australian Internet Alliance) ATUG (the Australian Telecommunications Users Group) intiaa (the Internet Industry Association of Australia) SAIA (the South Australian Internet Association) Tradegate Australia (including the Electronic Commerce Association) and WAIA (the Western Australian Internet Association). The two initial Associate Members are Michael Malone (DNA for asn.au) and Melbourne IT (DNA for com.au). '' I think Top Level Registries is also a prospective full member, but I can't confirm that in the Minutes or the Press Release. ] How do other countries manage the TLD and 2LDs? A rather broad question. See http://www.iahc.org/ http://www.gtld-mou.org/ ] My understanding up until all this occurred was that there were problems with ] .COM.AU and that ADNA was working towards fixing them. I seem ] to have missed why everythng under .AU as well as .AU is now in need of ] attention. I think the main reason this came up is because ADNA's Objects say that it has the objective of taking over responsibility for .AU. Some people are confused about whether ADNA's current (1997) objectives include this (as the legal objectives of ADNA as a company say it does), or do not include it, as a few of its directors say informally (and as was also hinted but not spelt out in a resolution of ADNA directors). If anyone from ADNA would like to suggest that an organisation's Objects are a mere legalism/formality, I would direct their attention to ADNA's criteria for full membership, which include looking at the Objects of the prospective member organisation. ________________________________________________________________________ David Keegel <hostmaster§wattle.id.au> Web: http://www.wattle.id.au/ Free Internet domain (DNS) registration, for Australian individuals.Received on Fri Jul 04 1997 - 12:37:39 UTC
