Looking Ahead - UDRP Bad Faith Analysis and New gTLDs by Sean Comerford
The Internet, at nearly every stage of its evolution, has effected change in existing intellectual property industries as those industries struggle to keep up with the march of technological advancement. For example, the entertainment industry has seen widespread piracy and bootlegging of just and soon-to-be released movies as a result of the increased availability of broadband Internet access in the home, and efficient peer-to-peer file-sharing technologies online. In response the entertainment industry has backed a wave of proposed legislation including the maligned Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA).

Another Cybersquatting Judgment in Favor of Plaintiff
Here are the lessons that we've learned as a result of actually getting out in front of a judge and a jury, and trying these ACPA cases. Number one, they are challenging cases because there's so little case law out there to help judges understand cybersquatting law issues. The other thing that is very clear is that so few judges have trademark law experience, let alone cybersquatting law experience that you have to be very careful about educating the judge.

Why cyber-bullying endures: Anonymous cyber-bullies have no empathy to their victims when trolling the internet.
When Amanda Todd was thirteen years old, she met a man on the internet who told her she was beautiful. He was a stranger and she was flattered by the attention. He asked her to take off her clothes, and Amanda, a seventh grader at a Canadian junior high school, flashed her breasts. He said she was "stunning" and "perfect".

us: Internet Service Providers Are About to Crack Down on lllegal File-Sharing
Back in July 2011, a coalition of U.S. Internet providers -- including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, Cablevision, and Time Warner Cable -- signed on to an agreement to crack down on online copyright infringers. Or, well, to "crack down." The terms of the agreement emphasized user education over user punishment: Instead of cutting infringing users off from Internet services, the providers dreamed up a "six strikes" approach to infringement notification: Copyright holders would do their standard scanning for infringement.

The pictures, nicknamed ?creepshots,? incited outrage and provoked other members of the site and some journalists to publicly out those distributing the suggestive images. Google Under Pressure from EU Regulators on Privacy Policy
On Oct. 16, European Union data protection authorities issued a letter to Google CEO Larry Page calling upon the search engine giant to revisit its privacy policy. Earlier this year, the policy was unified into one policy covering a wide range of different Google services and integrating data from Google search history and YouTube accounts. When Google first unveiled its new privacy policy, European regulators greeted it with skepticism and requested Google to delay instituting the revised policy. Google refused. The letter followed a months-long exchange between Google and EU privacy regulators, stemming from a formal investigation as to whether Google?s new privacy policy adheres to EU privacy regulations.

Twitter Blocks Neo-Nazi Twitter Account in Germany
Twitter's general counsel Alex Macgillivray tweeted last night that the company had taken action to block access to the tweets of §hannoverticker, the twitter account of white-supremacist group Besseres Hannover (Better Hannover), from within Germany. This is the first such action under a system outlined last January which gave Twitter the ability to censor tweets on a country-by-country basis. At the time, Twitter theorized this exact sort of situation as the basis for its plan, saying, "As we continue to grow internationally, we will enter countries that have different ideas about the contours of freedom of expression. Some differ so much from our ideas that we will not be able to exist there. Others are similar but, for historical or cultural reasons, restrict certain types of content, such as France or Germany, which ban pro-Nazi content."
