10 Years Since the Internet Was Changed Forever by Roland LaPlante
On Saturday, you were probably enjoying a quiet morning, sipping your coffee as
you consumed headlines about news from New York to New Delhi. The headlines
related to Internet business were probably much different than what you would
have seen 10 years ago. Then, there were just 20 million domain names in use,
ten percent of what is now our domain universe. But ten years ago, many of us in
the industry weren't enjoying an easy morning with our coffee; we were harried
from a sleepless night of poring over hundreds of pages that would constitute
the first new Top-Level Domain (TLD) bids submitted to ICANN, ever.

Libya Revoking .ly Domains That Don?t Adhere To Sharia Law
Until last month, blogger and consultant Ben Metcalfe had been operating a web

post:

Libyan authorities seize Vb.ly domain
A URL-shortening service with the domain suffix .ly has been taken offline

that country's morality and laws.

Libyan legal issue takes down URL shortener
What was once "the Internet's first and only sex-positive URL shortener" is no
more, thanks to a conflict with Libyan law. The Vb.ly service combined the
initials of blogger and sex columnist Violet Blue and the .ly country-specific
Internet domain associated with Libya. The combination didn't work out, an
outcome with potential implications for bit.ly, those use it, and
address-shortening services in general.

Something?s Just Not Adding Up with the Kentucky Domain Name Case
One of the strangest stories I?ve covered over the last several years has been
the attempt by the state of Kentucky to seize 141 domain names belonging to
internet gambling companies. The state was clearly upset that offshore sites
were taking revenue from their casinos and racetracks and they really had no way
of stopping their citizens from betting with those sites.

NAT won?t save you from the need to switch to IPv6
Once upon a time, anyone could get a static Internet Protocol (IP) Class C /24
address. That meant you got 256 addresses, well actually since .0 and .255 are

then. This is now.

Child welfare agencies have a thankless task: investigate reports of child

"secondary liability" for device makers. Europeans were demanding protection for
