1,5 million .eu registrations in less than a week
(news release)
In less than a week from the general launch .eu has
approximately 1.5 million domain names registered.
This is in addition to all the applications made
during the Sunrise phase which still await validation
before they are activated.

EU Domain Outgrows BIZ
A report issued Thursday by Internet researcher Ipwalk
(ipwalk.com) said that the .eu domain had quickly
outgrown the established top-level domain .biz in the
time since its land rush period began last Friday.

Germans lead the charge to register .eu domain names
Since Friday, any of the European Union's 450 million
citizens can register a new .eu domain name. Though
the Brussels-based European Registry of Internet
Domain Names (EURid) did not expect to be trampled in
the stampede, it received 350,000 pre-registration
applications and a further 560,000 on the first day -
making .eu bigger than many small country domains,
though still behind the 4.8m permutations of .uk, or
the 10m .com domains.

Black helicopters circle .eu domain
Letters Black helicopters have been circling this week
over the .eu domain landrush. The TLD has just been
made available to the unwashed masses after a sunrise
period for companies and organisations to stake their
legitimate claims. Naturally, it's all gone titsup:

Character Change for Chile Domain Name Provider
NIC Chile (Chile's domain name provider), the only one
in Latin America to have it's own domain name
extension (.cl), has, in the latest months, played
it's best cards.

Internet agency considers domain name to organize
contacts
Reaching out and touching someone used to be as simple
as dialing a string of numbers. But now there are
home, cell and work phone numbers from which to
choose, and sometimes work extensions to remember.
There are also e-mail addresses ? at home and at work
? and instant messaging handles, perhaps separate ones
for the various services, some of which now do voice
and video besides text.

Fighting Over the Scraps from ICANN's Table by Wendy
Seltzer
I?ve finally recovered from another ICANN meeting,
frustrated as ever. 700 or so people flew halfway
around the world to hear canned presentations,
dueling-monologue public form sessions, and
resolutions that left major issues unresolved, and to
gripe in the hallways about how little was being done.

Europe's domain registry hijacked, says GoDaddy
The registry for the new .eu domain has grown to 1.4
