An Australian Google search for 'Byron Bay' comes up with bayweb.com.au as the top result for me. If you were looking for 'Byron Bay Accommodation' then byron-bay-accommodation.com.au would be of more value. I guess if you really wanted to target an area, you would register a number of domains related to the most popular searches for that area. Plus alot of search engine optimisation. I'm not involved in search engine optimisation but I would have thought that seach engines looked past domain names these domains anyway?? Unless there is some evidence to support otherwise, I would say that except in very niche cases, the argument that having generic names is somehow better is well and truly overblown. There's much more to a domains value than its intrinsic dollar value. If you search Google for "Byron Bay" are you more likely to click on byronbay.com.au or bobsmithtravel.com.au ? Do you think bobsmithtravel.com.au gets any type-in traffic from anybody looking for information about Byron Bay ? If you're telling somebody about a great site about Byron Bay, do you think you're likely to remember the domain if it's byronbay.com.au etc etc ... Regardless, this is beside the point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Message transport security by GatewayDefender 10:15:12 PM ET - 8/30/2005 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- List policy, unsubscribing and archives => http://dotau.org/ __________________________________________________________ Message transport security by GatewayDefender.com 10:15:12 PM ET - 8/30/2005 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
