If we're having this futile debate about the profits that the successful bidder is rumoured to be making, imagine the uproar had a higher-priced bidder won. Everybody on this list arguably had the same opportunity to manage the registry. Why gripe now, when it's obviously successful? Competition, of necessity, creates a winner. We don't know what risk they took, either financially or commercially. Obviously AusRegistry took a greater risk than their fellow bidders, and now they're being rewarded. As it should be in a capitalist system. It will be interesting to see what prices come out of the next bidding process for the registry is under way / complete. Will we see far more contenders now that the viability is obvious? I surmise that AusRegistry will drop their prices substantially before that next tender begins, if for no reason other than to heighen the risk for their competitors to enter the market.
