Web Access breaches transfers policy Melbourne, 30 July 2003 - auDA has found that Web Access, a reseller of Enetica, has breached the Transfers (Change of Registrar of Record) Policy. During June and July 2003, Web Access initiated over 500 transfers from Melbourne IT to Enetica without obtaining a written request or authorisation from the registrants. auDA received complaints from registrants who were unaware that their domain names had been transferred. auDA found that the registrants did not receive notice of the transfer pursuant to the policy, because Web Access had entered its own contact email address in the registry database instead of the registrant's email address. "This incident serves as a warning to resellers who want to "bulk transfer" their customers from one registrar to another, that they must comply with the requirements of auDA's transfers policy," said Chris Disspain, auDA CEO. "The policy safeguards the right of registrants to make an informed choice to transfer their domain name to another registrar, even where their domain name is managed by a reseller." auDA has instructed AusRegistry to transfer the domain names back to the original registrar of record. -ENDS- For media contact: auDA: Chris Disspain Chief Executive Officer tel: 03 9349 4711 email: ceo§auda.org.auReceived on Fri Oct 03 2003 - 00:00:00 UTC
