Why does a web hosting company or a ISP want to become a registrar?

Thier core focus is on the services they provide, domains are a value
add service that the clients demand, thus a reseller is all these 
companies will ever want to focus on.

Although it would be easier, not every ISP or web hosting company has the
resources to become one.
