Enum: Mapping Telephone Numbers Onto The Internet - from
Quicklinks
ENUM is a technology "protocol" that allows the translation
of normal telephone numbers into a format that can be used
to store and retrieve Internet addressing information,
which can in turn be used to route communications over the
Internet. This technology has the potential to allow large
and small users to save money and increase control over and
flexibility in their communications. But ENUM's potential
benefits also bring risks in terms of privacy and other
public policy concerns.

WIPO Workshops for on Domain Name Dispute Resolution -
October 23 and 24, 2003
The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center’s domain name
dispute resolution service gives effect to the Uniform
Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), adopted by
the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
(ICANN) on August 26, 1999. The UDRP provides holders of
trademark rights with an administrative mechanism for the
efficient resolution of disputes arising out of the
bad-faith registration and use by third parties of Internet
domain names corresponding to those trademark rights. The
UDRP applies to disputes in the generic top-level domains
(gTLDs) .com, .net and .org and the new gTLDs. The remedies
available are limited to the transfer or cancellation of
the domain name.

The new .pro domain name, for use by professionals, will go
live in July. However, it is restricted to members of the
medical, legal and accountancy professions and, more
controversially, those outside the US will need to wait.

Your Internet name and address, please
Before you open a business, including an online one, you
need a name for it. A web site name should be descriptive
and easy to remember. The domain name you choose for your
online business should ``brand'' your web site.
Unfortunately, many of the common words and names have been
bought already, so it can take a little imagination to come
up with something that will work for you.

Court orders registry to transfer AOL.ORG - from BNA
Internet Law News
A federal court in Virginia has ordered the Public Interest
Registry, the registry for the dot-org domain, to transfer
aol.org to AOL. AOL previously obtained an ACPA in rem
jurisdictional ruling to transfer the domain but the
Asian-based registrar refused to transfer the domain. The
court ruled that there is no bar on ordering the registry
to transfer a domain where the registrar is uncooperative
and refuses to comply with an ACPA transfer order. Case
name is aol.org v. AOL.
