ICANN RESPONDS TO DOT-AERO OBJECTIONS ICANN has responded to accusations that the air travel industry is improperly limiting public access to the recently commissioned .aero Internet domain. While the understanding with .aero has always been that it would be restricted to members of the air travel and transport community, airline consumer advocate and author Edward Hasbrouck earlier this month urged members of the ICANN board to demand hearings on the .aero contract with the Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautiques (SITA), the group chosen to operate .aero. Hasbrouck argues that the draft text would unfairly exclude consumers and other non-commercial entities within the air travel community from registering .aero addresses. Response at http://www.icann.org/minutes/secretarys-notice-25nov01.htm Coverage at http://www.newsbytes.com/news/01/172422.html WHILE REGISTER.COM WON'T TELL Although there has been consistent pressure from the IP community for full disclosure of domain name registrants within the WHOIS database, Register.com is now offering a service that runs counter that approach. ICANN.Blog reports that it now offers an "account masking" service to its larger corporate clients, enabling them to hide their ownership of a domain name. The issue came to light when searching for the owner of altriasucks.com, the renamed Philip Morris. http://www.lextext.com/icann/index.html http://shopping.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo!
