One of my clients rang today querying an IRA "offer" that says, and I quote: "Internet Registration Australia is authorised by the administrator of the .com.au namespace to renew your domain name(s)". Thereafter it proceeds to solicit a 10-year fee for a 2-year service. The renewal isn't even due until the end of March next year. Why can't we cut these crooks off at the knees? They are certainly NOT authorised to renew my client's domain name, and to claim to be so is in my eyes gross misrepresentation and a blatant lie. C'mon you legal lot - do I, or my client, have recourse? -----Original Message----- From: Rowe, Joshua [mailto:Joshua.Rowe§auspost.com.au] Sent: Tuesday, 20 November 2001 3:45 PM To: 'dns§auda.org.au' Subject: RE: [DNS] IRA & ING's latest renewal notices ING are now trying to scare com.au domain name holders into buying the same name in the .com space to prevent cyber squatting" ... http://www.whatsinaname.com.au/renewals/wING03a.jpg http://www.whatsinaname.com.au/renewals/wING03b.jpg http://www.whatsinaname.com.au/renewals/wING03c.jpg This is an interesting tactic for an organisation which has registered: australianit.com asic.com.au auda.info aunic.info etc ...
