ICANN AT-LARGE COMMITTEE ISSUES FINAL REPORT; DECISION DELAYED TO
2002
The ICANN At-Large Membership committee issued its final
report yesterday. To no one's surprise, the report
recommends that the general public's influence on ICANN be
reduced to six board seats from the original plan of nine
along with fees levied for the right to help choose its
members. Carl Bildt, the chair of the committee, said that
now was not the time for experimentation on this issue,
though seemingly the recommendations experiment with new
conditions on the original plan. Regardless, ICANN will not
decide the issue at next week's meeting in California,
deferring the matter until its spring meeting in Ghana.
