Thanks, Chris.

Now the contract is signed, is there any sort of timetable for the
introduction of the naming and competition policies?

auDA SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH ICANN

Melbourne 30-10-01 - auDA has signed an Agreement with the Internet
Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to formalise the
transfer
of delegation for the .au country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD).

"This is a significant milestone for Australia's Internet users and for
the
global Internet community," said auDA CEO, Chris Disspain.

"We are pleased to have signed an agreement with ICANN, and are
committed to
our role in ICANN's larger mandate of coordinating global Internet
stability. We look forward to working together with the ccTLD
constituency
to ensure that ICANN's policies reflect the interests of all ccTLDs."

The Agreement, signed on 25 October 2001, sets out the relationship
between
auDA as the .au delegate and ICANN as the international domain name
governing body.

"It is not surprising that the Australian ccTLD would be the first to
sign
an agreement," said ICANN President/CEO, M. Stuart Lynn. "The Australian
Internet community and the Australian government have a longstanding
commitment to ICANN. Australia has a well developed Internet community
due
in no small measure to the pioneering work of Robert Elz."

Disspain also paid tribute to Elz, the former .au delegate, for his
outstanding personal contribution to the development of the Internet and
Domain Name System in Australia.

"Under Robert Elz's management, the .au domain has developed a uniquely
Australian identity. auDA intends to build on this work, by introducing
naming and competition policies that make it easier for more Australians
to
participate in their own domain space."
