I think there's nothing wrong with the current selection of .au 2LDs (flame-proof underpants now on) - just some policy issues. There is something to catch everyone who wants a domain, right through to the individual who can register a free .id.au. One argument from people who dis-like .id.au is that they have to register a sub-domain of a 2LD of .id.au. However, I doubt any one single person would be happy to volunteer their time to look after all of .id.au if it was a free-for-all for 2LDs, and no commercial organisation is going to be happy looking after it unless .id.au's atracted a registration cahrge. By splitting .id.au up into it's nine sub-domains, you're splitting the work up into managable chunks that can be assigned off to volunteers and hence kept free (for the majority of them). (and I doubt this policy will change while kre looks after id.au and .au) PD -- Paul Day Email: bonfire§bur.st Web: www.bur.st/~bonfireReceived on Wed Jun 06 2001 - 17:14:10 UTC
