] So, (haha), why register a .com etc name, when you might have a full TLD? ] But, if you want your own TLD you'd best be quick, apps close in 2 months. http://www.icann.org/tlds/application-process-03aug00.htm :- a. In General. To apply to sponsor or operate a TLD, one must submit a detailed, multi-part proposal accompanied by extensive supporting documentation. The effort and cost of preparing a sufficient proposal should not be underestimated. The proposal must be based on a thoroughly formulated plan for the establishment and viable long-term operation of the TLD. It is anticipated that only a few of the applications that are received will be selected for further negotiations toward suitable contracts with ICANN. Those submitting applications that are not selected for negotiations, or that are selected but do not result in successful negotiation of mutually satisfactory agreements, will not be refunded their application fee, nor will ICANN reimburse their (probably larger) cost of preparing the application. Applying for this is certainly not something for the faint of heart. You need to be prepared to risk about US$100k (including preparation costs), with only a small chance of getting anything at all in return. __________________________________________________________________________ David Keegel <djk§cyber.com.au> URL: http://www.cyber.com.au/users/djk/ Cybersource P/L: Unix Systems Administration and TCP/IP network managementReceived on Sat Aug 05 2000 - 13:14:42 UTC
