Hi Tony. I have to take issue with this (re auDA): On 26-Oct-99 Tony Barry wrote: > Right! It's a representative body with open membership. If you didn't join > do so. The idea that you have to join a body or lose your right to complain about it an attitude that is quite indefensible, but seems to be gaining ground here and in similar forums - we hear it regularly from (and about) the IIA, for example. Would anyone say this about the One Nation party? About the Ku Klux Klan? If someone doesn't like an organisation for any reason, they have every right to a) not join and b) whinge as much as they like. I agree that organising (inside or out) is more constructive, but that isn't the point. If I don't join a body, then that body doesn't represent me, even if I happen to passively approve of its position. It is improper and a lie for any organisation (or anybody else) to say it represents anyone other than its members.
