Good points here Larry. > > > At this point, the only parties that are likely to avoid us pissing into > the wind (excuse my lack of manners) are: > > Robert Elz (because he has absolute power over .AU) > Government (because they are bigger than kre) First of all, Robert Elz nor any single individual really has power over the .AU ccTLD unless the stakeholders either allow him to have it or select him to have such power. Now the Australian Government Does have something to say about the .AU ccTLD should they so choose to exercise it. Though I have NO say so what so ever as I am not an Australian, our future commercial interests in Australia may have. But that isn't really of value at this point. It just appears to me that the stakeholder and Internet user community within Australia should or could form their own stakeholder and Internet user community could form their own Organization .ORG and set up a site under the .ORG gTLD and start to get things put together. In fact several such Organizations could do this to represent different segments of the stakeholder and Internet User community that use .AU or have Domains registered under .AU. There are two ways that seem apparent to me to make this happen 1.) Stakeholders, along with some leader or organizer can put together just such an origination and start to soliciting members from the stakeholder community within Australia. 2.) Stakeholders and User Groups can unite in a common orginization and than lobby the Australian government for recognition. Once any or both of these are done, than proposals for managing the .AU ccTLD can be put forth that may improve the Registration an registrar/registry service for the .AU ccTLD. (I would assume here that licensing will be required). > > > Without support from both or either of these parties we are wasting our > time. Yes, the authority should emanate from within that Organizations) and it should be open to any and all stakeholders as well as any Australian Internet Users. > > > Now I see the stakeholders as follows: > > Robert Elz Yes as a stakeholder or a user only. > Government > The ISP Industry > The domain buying public > Commercial 'Players' in the domain registration business. I don't know weather the ADNA is a representative or not. Does it have a charter. Is ia legal registered organization of some kind within the legal structure of the Australian legal system? If so, than that should be enough. > > > To Robert Elz: Are you interested in the industry as a whole putting its > efforts together towards reforming the .AU namespace? It is necessary for him to abide by what he Stakeholders and the Australian Internet User community wants once they are organized officially. > > > Regards > > Larry Bloch > > At 15:10 22/06/98 +0930, you wrote: > > > >> > >> Would it be possible to elect 8 people from the following > >> list to be the Trustees of the .AU TLD ? > >> > >> Robert Elz > >> Larry Bloch > >> Steve Baxter > > > >take me out please - I have had a gutful and just wish to be a noise maker > >on the sidelines as that is really easy and requires very little rational > >thought ! > > > > > >> Chris Chaundy > >> James Ray > >> David Keegel > >> Kevin Dinn > >> Adam Todd > > > >I insist that if this goes ahead that any person who has stated ambition > >to fragment the DNS system as we know it not be involved as they have > >disqualified themselves from the real DNS debate.
