DNS: An Open Discussion With the IAB ?

The statement below was recently released by the Internet Architecture Board (IAB).
The members of the IAB are shown below and here: <http://www.isi.edu/iab/members.html>

In my opinion, the best way to hold an open discussion about this announcement is
with the IAB on the Internet. If these people are really interested in open discussions
about Internet Governance they can easily post their views to the lists that seem to attract
people from around the world. No one needs to fly to Washington, D.C. to participate in
these discussions. The discussions can happen at any time. It is up to the IAB to enter
these open discussions. To date, they have hardly participated.

As more and more discussions open up and as people begin to look at alternative
Internet architectures, one would think that the IAB members would be interested
in helping to shape these discussions. It will be interesting to see if they participate
in the growing, global Internet in open discussions with people other than themselves.
They have the opportunity, it is sitting in front of them.

§
§
§The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) has reviewed the US Government
§White Paper at
§http://www.ntia.doc.gov/ntiahome/domainname/6_5_98dns.htm
§and welcomes it, especially the emphasis on self-governance
§for the Internet. In our view it is rather urgent to build
§international consensus around the new IANA corporation, and
§the IAB will strive to do so as quickly as possible. In particular,
§the IAB believes that the new corporation must be built out
§from the existing IANA function hosted by the Information Sciences
§Institute of the University of Southern California under the
§direction of Jon Postel.
§
§The IAB is an oversight committee of the Internet Engineering Task
§Force (IETF). For further details, please see the Web site
