I have a very simple suggestion. Here we come back to those little numeric codes that were created and assigned to every category. By creating a DNS heirachy for Trademarks such as: prince.3245.tm.au (someone can look up the codes, it's been a long time since I've seen them) this allows prince.1256.tm.au also to be registered. But now we are back to Simon Higgs dream concept. Perhaps I shoudl invite SImon to this mail list? Any objections? Simon can explain in great detail this process, sadly even I objected to the process as there would truely be millions of possible places to try and look. But it's the ONLY possible answer. Of course why not HAND TM.AU to the AIPO and let them worry about it? Sometimes it's better NOT to be involved than to be involved. Why create TWICE the work? Are the Registrars and Administrators of TM.AU going to validate EVERY registration application? If you ask for a certificate number, I could just make one up and you'll accept it. How many times have I seen made up ACN's been pushed forward as "legit" ACNs for registration? Even ARBN's have been randomly made up. The Registry has to be prepared to foot the bill for validation of selection criteria, if it makes another authority responsible for the criteria. ACN's are managed by the ASC, fine that's easier - it's online. Trademarks howevere aren't online in AU - yet.
