Lots of others of us who believe that the internet is a 'public good' think it might be appropriate for the government to show a higher level of interest. But its quite clear that the government is not one of those thinkers. The government has made it absolutely plain that in many, many areas that affect society as a whole (not just the internet) it expects someone else to take on oversight and administrative roles. BTW, Standards Australia is not a government or semi-government body. It is an independent non-profit organisation, controlled by a council made up of representatives from many other organisations including industry associations, etc. Regards, Mark * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Message From : HUGHES, MARK * * Location : AUSTRALIA-CCA HDQ * * KOMAIL ID : N17503 (CCAMCQN1) * * Date and Time: 07/09/97 17:43:49 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Received on Wed Jul 09 1997 - 18:51:33 UTC
