Towards the end of March, M-IT agreed not to delete all unpaid COM.AU domain names on March 17, 1997. Instead, they moved to: a) Domain names registered after October 8, 1996, but as yet unpaid, would require payment by 30/04/97 or be deregistered on 01/05/97. b) Domain names registered before October 8, 1996 would need to notify M-IT that they are "active", and would be left alone until Oct 8, 1997. c) Domain names register after October 8, 1996, and paid, would remain "licensed". Part of this agreement was that M-IT would provide some method for us to find out which of these classes domain names fell into. In early April, a web page was set up at: http://www.melbourneit.com.au/com_au which provided a "license status" check. Unfortunately, it only classes domain names as "licensed" or "unlicensed". So, once again, we have a situation in which some domain names are going to be deregistered in a few days. What we do not have is any way of determining which ones it will be. My desired outcome is to simply hand M-IT a cheque for the domain names that they registered after Oct 8, and are about to delete, without having to go back to court again.
