Simon, I know from talking with you that we are substantially in agreement about the uses of the DNS .com.au namespace. So what gives below? I'm providing the original e-mail in case you didn't see the material you quoted in context. As you can see, we agree that: - DNS is not a directory service (and I never said that it was, so I'll assume your repeated comment was aimed at the list as a whole). - The desirability of a search engine (which I stated in the next sentence after the text you quoted). The ACN registry has always struck me as a good idea, especially as a search engine could be easily built from publically available ASC material (company name, ACN, industry code) and it would fit well into X.500.
