My message seemed to generate a lot of personal e-mail directed my way. It seems that there is support for another, not-for-profit, com.au registry. AUUG, ISOC-AU and AUSCERT have all been mentioned as possible candiates. I won't and can't speak for any of these groups, but I am now of the firm belief that one should take up the role. I really like the idea of AUSCERT looking after it, as they already have a perceived neutrality (although that might change in their refocus to subscriptions - ie. favour subscribers over others). Anyway, who ever it ends up being, there appears to be a lot of support. A worry is the issue of who owns the DNS servers, and how two or more of these registry organisations gain access to these servers. Not to mention how to deal with conflicts (ie. two people go for witherspoon.com.au at the same time through different registries). Marc B. ------- _-_|\ Marc A.
